Subject: Perfection unattainable?
Perhaps they let perfection find them, and clearly some shows, appear to be failures? I love that this was released and that Dick (or whomever) thought the exploration worth sharing with us other enthusiasts! I've only been able to hear this painful audience recording.
Subject: Can't believe such a mediocre show could be released officially
Major mistakes in "Promised Land" and "Samson". (Why is this show released, again?). Even Cassidy comes to an abrupt, weird ending, as if they couldn't remember the arrangement.
The meat of the second set, St. Stephen/NFA/Eyes/The Wheel is ok, mostly due to the energy of the drummers, who are obviously having a great time. Jerry is obviously not in the mood to play much lead, though.
Perhaps the audience tape sounds like a better show; the soundboard sounds like a real sleepy, mediocre, sub-par show. How anyone would single THIS show out for release is beyond me. Not the Dead at their worst, but definitely nowhere near their best.
What I comped from this show:
1st set: Music Never Stopped, Mama Tried, Big River, Brown Eyed Women, Looks Like Rain, Cassidy
2nd set: From St. Stephen/NFA/St. Stephen/Eyes Of The World, The Wheel.
Subject: Very Strange Recording
us blues encore rocks
good song selection first set, sound aint so bad overall, little muffled in places but certainly listenable and enjoyable!
Subject: GD Download Series Vol 4
Not fantastic sound quality, fairly constant distortion and hiss but pretty consistant sound so you can enjoy it if you try
Happy Birthday Jerry!
Subject: I like 1976
Subject: Slow to get going but hot set II
Subject: old fogey
This show was incredible. The sound quality is not so great, but the material is excellent. Thanks for the memories. This was my first show.
